Hi Gang!

Hope you're all staying healthy during the weirdest summer on record. We've been preparing ourselves for another lockdown - from the governor or the mayor - but so far it hasn't happened.

Work is still progressing on our remodel. The current push is to complete our new Rare Book Room; we're probably still at least a month away from that, but we think it'll be worth the wait - those of you who enjoy shopping for more collectible books will finally be able to browse titles in a more spacious area.

Just as a reminder: we would LOVE to see you in the store, but be sure to bring your mask, follow six-foot social distancing as much as possible, and (especially on Saturdays) be prepared to wait for a short time outside if the number of in-store customers hits capacity.

We also can't tell you yet when we will resume buying/trading. We still have hundreds of boxes of stock to work through.

We are also still doing curbside pickup; just call us at 818-509-2665 or email us with your wants, and we can go from there.

Thank you for your continuing support. We truly value it.

WHAT'S IN THE SAFE?
Have you ever noticed the big safe full of books behind Iliad's front counter? We get asked about it frequently. "Is it really old?" is a common question (the answer: no, we bought it new just a few years ago). But most customers want to know what kind of books merit storage in a safe (we think of these as the rarest of our rare books), so in this column we'll pick one book every month and tell you about it. This month's book is...
You're Only Old Once!: A Book for Obsolete Children, by Dr. Seuss, first edition hardback in dust jacket published by Random House in 1986. In near fine condition with near fine jacket, no real flaws. Signed and inscribed by Dr. Seuss. $350
