Hi Gang!

It's with a heavy heart that we've just bid farewell to longtime employee Morgan, but we're also happy for the next step in her journey: she and her husband have purchased a dream home in Central California, where they'll be close to family. Congratulations, Morgan!

But please welcome new employee Tim! Tim is a dedicated bookseller and bibliophile, and we're very glad to have him as part of the Iliad family.

And because we know you're anxious to get to the new arrivals...we've acquired an astonishing Mary Wollstonecraft first - the legendary A Vindication of the Rights of Woman - see below - more rare W. Somerset Maugham, and the usual variety of great new literature and non-fiction. Remember, you can always e-mail or call us (818-509-2665) if you're looking for something in particular.

Here's to a summer full of good reading.

BLOGGING ABOUT...
Do you know about the Limited Editions Club? This extraordinary book club was founded by George Macy in 1929; over the next half-century, they published 548 books, most limited to 1,500 or 2,000 copies.

The typical Limited Editions Club volume is a classic book illustrated and hand-signed by a highly regarded artist. The books are beautifully designed and bound, and often include slipcases or multi-volume sets. If the author was still alive during the printing of the book, the author signed along with the illustrator.

Among the most famous of the Limited Editions Club releases: their 1935 edition of James Joyce's Ulysses, illustrated by Henri Matisse - 250 copies out of the total 1,500 were signed by Joyce himself. Their 1982 edition of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 isn't just illustrated by Joseph Mugnaini, it's also bound in anti-flammable aluminum.

If you're interested in collecting Limited Editions Club books, the Iliad is a good place to start. We usually have a good selection, with some at under a hundred dollars. Click here to check our current stock.

WHAT'S IN THE SAFE?
Have you ever noticed the big safe full of books behind Iliad's front counter? We get asked about it frequently. "Is it really old?" is a common question (the answer: no, we bought it new just a few years ago). But most customers want to know what kind of books merit storage in a safe (we think of these as the rarest of our rare books), so in this column we'll pick one book every month and tell you about it. This month's book is...
A Vindication of the Rights of Woman: With Strictures on Political and Moral Subjects, by Mary Wollstonecraft (mother of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein), published by J. Johnson, 1792. Good condition. Rebacked, with staining and wear to binding, corners are heavily worn, foxing throughout, binding cracking near center; in custom clamshell case (light soiling, sunning and wear to case). $6,000.

ZEUS AND APOLLO
This month we have a special guest appearance by Henrietta. Some of you may remember her as the feral cat who lived in the Iliad just before we got Zeus and Apollo. Back then she was tiny and timid; now she lives with employee Bob, and as you can see she blossomed into a real beauty!
We'd love to include your photos in our newsletter! Feel free to send to info@iliadbooks.com , let us know that it's okay to use the photo, and we'll include it in a future newsletter.

If you need more photos/videos of Zeus and Apollo, or any of Iliad's past felines, please visit our Pet Gallery.
